Always COOL DOWN used oil in your pan or fryer before collecting.

For very small amounts of oil, wipe up with a paper towel and throw in the green cart or trash.

For any amount of oil that can be poured out
, strain out food scraps and dispose of them in the green cart or trash.

Make sure you pour oil into a clean, non-breakable container with a tight-fitting lid, such as the original container, or an old coffee jar.

When container is full, take to a drop-off site, such as the Household Drop-off Waste Center (for hours, call (415) 330-1400) or click here for latest drop-off collection event.

Remember, don’t pour or rinse any fats, oils or grease down the drain.
